For our new ‘Follow the Sun’ series we sat down with Judy Alexander, our Regional Managing Director for Oceania. Based in Queensland, Judy has been with interTouch for over fifteen years. She was promoted into her current role earlier this year to further accelerate the growth of the business in Oceania.
Could you tell us a little bit about your background and your role at interTouch?
“I started with interTouch in 2005 when I was still studying part-time completing a Bachelor of Computing at Monash University. Back then, Wi-Fi was a new concept and I would ask hotels and serviced apartments if we could install an antenna on their roof so people could access the Internet. Laptops typically did not have built-in Wi-Fi so we had to provide wireless bridges that the hotels kept at reception in order for guests to use the service. How times have changed!”
What is the best part about your job?
“Technology is ever evolving, and I am always learning, which makes this such a rewarding career.”
What are the key hospitality technology trends you’re witnessing in the region?
“Casting (BYOD) is one of the key technologies hotels are focusing on here in the region. More and more hotels are looking to enable their guests to watch their own content on the in-room TV instead of providing subscription-based content to them to enrich the guest experience.”
What’s your outlook for the hospitality industry in 2021 and beyond?
“Hotels will be consolidating vendors to provide a one-stop shop experience. This will enable them to simplify the support experience and provide cost effective technology solutions for their guests as well as for the back of house.”
What makes interTouch a great company to do business with?
“We have a very highly experienced global team; we are flexible and pride ourselves on our unparalleled levels of integrity and customer support.”
How does the company differentiate itself?
“Under the ownership of Gate Worldwide Holdings, we are part of an amazing group of companies. We develop all of our solutions in-house under a single corporate umbrella. This provides us with full control of the suite of solutions that we provide to our customers.”
How do hotels benefit from interTouch solutions? What are the key problems you solve for them?
“As a global company with a presence in over 60 countries, we are able to provide 24/7/365 support to all our customers. We have a dedicated contact centre and NOC for which we have a ‘follow-the-sun’ approach to allow for seamless support, anytime and anywhere. We simplify the support channels for our customers’ technology solutions and offer cost effective and flexible pricing, including financing options, which is unique in the industry.”
What are the key characteristics of a strong salesperson in (hotel) technology?
“I think the most important skills are communication and the ability to work consultatively alongside customers to plan and future-proof proposed solutions tailoring your offering to their business needs and priorities.”
Do you have a motto or favourite quote in business and/or life?
“Honesty is the best policy.”
When we are allowed to travel again, what is the first destination on your bucket list?
“I would love to travel to Fiji with my family and stay at one of the beautiful resorts that we service in that region.”
